Here are some questions that im asking well I go through making a bow and arrows. -How does the drawback weight change your shot? -----The draw weight on a bow is used for different archers and changes the power of the shot. Here is a small diagram I found on draw weight that you should use depending on your body. Small child 50-70 lbs 10-15 lbs Child 70-100 lbs 15-25 lbs Most women, boys from 100 - 130 lbs 30-40 lbs Women above average strength; youth boys 130 - 150 lbs 40-50 lbs Most men 150-180 lbs Target 40-55 lbs Most men 150-180 lbs Bow hunting or 3D 50-65 lbs Muscular young men and larger men 180 lbs and up 60-70 lbs -How does a fletching effect a shot? -How can you tell where to shoot based on wind, power, distance? -How does the type of bow change the shot? -How do materials used in bow and or arrows affect the shot? -How would you make a bow and arrows from scratch? -What are different arrows used for? -Could I make a real trick arrow like from green arrow? -What would be some challenges of that? -----The weight of the arrow could be a challenge because depending on what the arrow has to do it might not be able to shoot as well because it might be to heavy. -----The size of the arrow could get too big and bulky to be shot. -----Similar to the size is it's aerodynamics. Depending on what the arrow needs to do it wont shoot as well because it probably wont have the right shape to have good aerodynamics. -Could I make a real grappling hook arrow?
Struggles/Conflicts
-Money (Need money for targets and arrows and supplies to make bow) -Weather (Has to be weather permitted, So as winter hits will be much tougher to test out bows and go out for building primitive bow)
First Attempt
I decided that with this inquiry of archery not only am I going to learn how to be better at archery, but I want to try creating arrows and a bow from scratch. I would like to create a primitive version to see if it could be done like in Green Arrows origin on Starfish Island. I would also like to make a version using already man made supplies and then compare the two.
Today I created my first arrow with no prior research (as seen on the right side). Now it did not come out great. I learned a few lessons from this. 1. Finding perfectly straight wooden sticks is almost impossible 2. Don't do it in the rain 3. Arrow head needs something for the string to grip onto 4. I need tools to make arrow heads
I will Try again after some research on this topic A little while later....
So after some research I have found a very well made video on how to make primitive bows and arrows. It is made by Primitive Technology on YouTube and even though he does not speak and there are nor words in the video you still get a pretty good explanation as he shows you how to make these tools from scratch. Now he did this with stone tools. I will be doing this same things (if i can if not i will use real tools). Here are links if you want to check it out.
